Bob stated that in the By-Laws that all students and directors were solely responsible for transactions of purchases and payments of items for band etc. Then the students and directors would have to seek reimbursement from the treasurer of the Music Boosters. Bob stated that it would be in the best interest of the Music Boosters to keep the paper trial that we have presently. A Motion was made to keep all fees and transactions to and from the Treasurer of the Port Clinton Music Boosters. All in favor!

Choir Report

April 9, 2007

Gregory Fox

Three high school choir students have sent in applications for the All Ohio State Fair Youth Choir this summer. They are Joshua Bickel, a member of the AOSFYC in 2006, Marlee Fick, and Brady Krupp. The deadline was extended and two other senior members are considering their applications with their families over Easter weekend.

I have been asked to bring a small ensemble to the CIC on Friday evening April 20 to perform for the annual Port Clinton Chamber of Commerce awards night.

Eighteen seventh grade and eighth grade choir students are preparing solos for the District II MS solo & ensemble contest hosted at Genoa High School on Saturday April 21, 2007.

Former student Jose Pizana is now studying composition at Heidelberg in addition to private piano. He is enrolled at Heidelberg as a PSO student for next fall and will receive credit for his studies, and have the tuition paid.

The new director of the Navy Sea Chanters does not use area high school students in their performances. A representative came to PCHS on Wednesday March 14 to go over the details for the concert. The local committee is going to provide me with a block of tickets to take MS choir students as a group. The performance is scheduled for Saturday May 5.

I will be hosting MIP in May – we will need a few adult volunteers. If some booster members would like to have a concessions table at the MS and the HS then that could bring in some income with current supplies and would be a nice addition to this fund raiser.

The last opera trip for HS students this school year is Thursday April 26 at the Valentine Theater in downtown Toledo.

The MS spring art show & concert is Tuesday May 8. The art show begins at 6:00 p.m. followed by the concert in the MS auditorium at 7:00 p.m. And, the last HS choir concert is Thursday May 17 at 7:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Gregory Fox, choirs

Port Clinton Music Boosters – April 9, 2007

Director’s Report – Rod Miller

  1. After a wonderful concert in March, the High School Concert Band received the top rating of SUPERIOR at Large Group Contest at Sandusky Perkins. Not only did the band receive that top rating, they did so with a PERFECT score of 4. Congratulations to all of our student-musicians.
  2. In preparations for the concert and contest, the band hosted Mr. Jon Waters, assistant director of The Ohio State University Marching Band, for an afternoon of rehearsal. Mr. Waters was very impressed with the work ethic and rehearsal discipline of the band for the entire rehearsal. A big thank you to Bob and Molly Dodge for taking care of the refreshments for the band members that day.
  3. The John Philip Sousa Concert is scheduled for May 10 at 7:30 pm in the PAC. Plans are under way and going well. If anyone is interested in helping to set up the night before the concert, please let Mr. Miller know ASAP. We are also in need of advertisers for the program to help offset the cost of the concert. Please contact Mr. Miller for a form.
  4. We have a very early number for the amount of students in the next year’s band. At this time, we see a slight increase. The amount of players in last year’s marching band was in the mid 70’s while we are anticipating numbers in the mid 80’s this year.
  5. The amount of people going to Florida next year continues to rise. It appears that we will have a very nice size traveling party. There is still room for chaperones. Please contact Mr. Stitak or Mr. Miller.
  6. After discussion with Mr. Fox, we agreed that we would try to have an awards night for all band, orchestra, and choir members in late May. Details still need to be discussed and acted upon by the directors.
  7. Fund raiser has started. All proceeds go to the students.

Music Booster Meeting

April 9, 2007

Seventh and Eighth Grade Bands

Tom Bixler

  1. Several middle school and high school band members went to see Boston Brass on March 23, at Bowling Green State University. The students had a small tour of the School of Music and sat in a lecture about brass ensemble playing. The concert by the Boston Brass was well received by the students.

  1. Eighth grade band members continue to work on solo and ensemble music. All the students will be involved in at least one ensemble. As of today, we have 7 ensembles and 7 solos planning on attending the event. The contest will be held at Genoa High School on Saturday, April 21.

  1. The bands will perform May 8, at the Middle School Spring Concert and Art Show as well as on May 12, at the District 2 Large Group Adjudicated Event to be held in Sandusky. The bands final performance for the year will be May 28 at the Memorial Day ceremony.

  1. Chaperones are needed for the May 12th performance in Sandusky. Four chaperones, that are Board of Education approved, would be great. Call the middle school if you are interested.
