On the orchestra side of the music department, District II festival is well underway with Port Clinton High School being well represented in this year’s festival orchestra. Thos students who will be participating include Rose Huskey, Andrea De Leon, Samantha Rider, Beau Hamann, Brenton Millinger, Emily Rounds, Nick Passabet, Cory Smith, and Molly Taylor. The orchestra is 80 people strong and it needs to be noted that Rose Huskey made 2nd chair violin II, Beau Hamann made 2nd chair viola, and Cory Smith made 1st chair bass. Congratulations to these students who have committed their time and talents to this group.
In closing, Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, and Happy New Year.
Respectfully submitted,
Brian Stitak Due to the college financial aide meeting, I am unable to attend tonight’s Music Booster meeting. There is not a lot in my report this evening.
Music Booster Report – December 2005 Todd Peitz, High School/Elementary Band
The high school band will be performing in concert with the orchestra and choirs this Wednesday night as part of the annual holiday concert. The concert begins at 7:30 pm in the PAC.
Several students from the high school have auditioned for honor bands throughout the state of Ohio throughout the past few months. David Root has been accepted to participate as a member of the Ohio University Honors Band from January 6-8 in Athens, Ohio. He has also been accepted to participate in the Ohio State University Honors Band during the weekend of January 14th, 2005. Today, I received notification that he, as well as Lauren Higgins and Alexis Dunfee have been accepted to participate in the Bowling Green State University Honors Band as part of the 48th Annual New Band Music Reading Clinic during the weekend of January 21st. Congratulations to these students for their efforts.
David Root was also accepted to participate in the annual District II Honors Festival being held here at Port Clinton High School on the weekend of January 14th. Due to the conflict with the Ohio State Honors Band, he has elected to perform at OSU.
Several students have been traveling throughout the community the past few weeks and performing for various holiday functions as a small brass ensemble. These students are Jason Drusbacky, Alexis Dunfee, Melissa Dodge, and Ben Jones. Some of the more notable performances have included the Kiwanis Club luncheon, the O.E. Meyer Christmas party at the CIC Club, and the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in downtown Sandusky.
The jazz band has started rehearsing every Wednesday night. There are 30 students signed up for jazz band, and it looks to be an exciting group again this year. The students will be preparing for a concert in the spring, as well as will be working with a guest artist, Mr. Jay Miglia, who has toured with groups such as Manhattan Transfer and the Four Tops in March.
The 6th grade band has ben working very hard in class each morning to continue learning how to play their instruments. The students have a very posititve outlook on class and come into class each morning excited to play.
No word yet on the raincoats. I have called Midwest band, which is the company we have ordered them through, and I am waiting for a call back. Dwight, our sales representative is in Chicago all of this week for the Midwest convention, so I am not sure when he will call. Hopefully I will get a response soon.
Thank you very much for the refreshments on Saturday, Dec. 3rd. They were much appreciated by us and the other directors of District II.
Thus concludes my report. Respectfully submitted,
